ResearchSaving Lives through Cardiac ResearchCardiac research is a major component of cardiovascular care at The Florida Hospital Cardiovascular Institute and the Florida Heart Institute (FHI). Our research team includes physicians, professional researchers and a full-time staff of clinical research nurses. Working together, they incorporate results-driven research findings into comprehensive care programs for our cardiac patients.
Clinical InnovationOur medical team has dedicated decades to clinical innovation. As a result, Florida Hospital is ranked as one of the top hospitals in the nation for patient enrollment in cardiac research studies. By participating in clinical research, patients gain access to promising new treatments and technology long before they are available to the general population - enabling our medical staff to save more lives. Through our 23 years of research, we have been involved with the development of numerous cardiovascular innovations and treatments, including: · Implantable defibrillators and dual chamber pacemakers. · Coronary artery occlusion repair and devices including stents (from first generational bare metal to today’s drug eluting stents, debulking procedures such as Rotoblator® and Cutting Balloon®, thrombectomy procedures including the Possis AngioJet® Rheolytic Thrombectomy System, and the Rinspiration® system). · Advances in coronary disease management including blood thinners and cholesterol lowering agents. · Cardiovascular surgical advances involving annuloplasty rings, valve replacements, surgical adhesive glue, endovascular grafts and intra-operative medications to improve post-surgical outcomes. · Arrhythmia management and treatments involving surgical and peripheral ablation techniques and therapies. · Heart failure management and medications. Because of the on-going nature of research, we are continually working on new clinical trials, areas of particular revolutionary concerns include: · Refractory angina reduction via stem cell therapy. · Atrial Fibrillation endoscopic ablation. · Coronary Angiogenesis via gene therapy. · Rheos™ system for essential hypertension (high blood pressure). Please see below for a complete list of current clinical trials. If you are a patient and feel you may be a candidate for one of our studies, or you are a physician and you are interested in referring a patient for a study, please proceed to our research inquiry form.
